As you can imagine, each business we work with is quite unique, with varying numbers of transactions, investments, bank accounts, loans, etc. We use a pricing calculator that factors in these and other variables. We then charge a one-time lump-sum fee for clean-ups and catch-ups based on the result of the pricing calculator and multiplied by the number of months needing caught up or cleaned up; and /or a monthly flat fee for monthly services. Year end services are included with a monthly contract and are not charged extra.

When I was in college, I worked on the grounds crew. Specifically, the pruning crew. I was part of a dynasty on that crew that began with my older brother and included his wife and her brother and sister. It was a good time! Every Friday, without fail, was Clean and Sharpen Friday. We would unhook the trailer from the big red van we drove around campus in. We would clean out any trash or lost-and-found items from inside the van. We would go through our box of gardening gloves and toss out ones that had holes, were torn, or worn out. Then most of the crew would take the van through the car wash, while a few of us took the pruning shears and branch loppers to the sandblaster. The sandblaster we used looked like a popcorn machine – a clear box with all plexiglass sides sitting on a base. On one side was a door that was opened to place the tools inside. On the front were two holes connected to rubber gloves that reached into the box. One would step up to the box, put their arms and hands inside the gloves, and pick up a tool in one hand and the sandblaster hose in the other hand. When the hose was turned on, sand was blasted out onto the tools, cleaning off all the grime and sharpening the metal at the same time. Then, our tools were in good condition, and instead of becoming rusty and dull, they were clean and sharp and ready to help us do the job well for the next week.
Your financial tools are an essential part of your business, and must be organized, cleaned and sharpened on a regular basis.

My primary career is electroneurodiagnostic technology – that’s brainwave recordings (or EEG’s) which are mostly done for seizure/epilepsy patients. I’m currently taking a break from that career to focus on my bookkeeping clients and gain a greater degree of freedom in my life.
